SAN FRANCISCO -- The Moscone Center in San Francisco was evacuated this afternoon due to a bomb scare, sending an estimated 20,000 OracleWorld attendees out onto the streets of San Francisco and interrupting the third day of the user event.

There were no reports of injuries and no device was ever found.

Dozens of city police officers were on the scene to inspect the building. They cordoned off an area roughly the size of two city blocks, preventing traffic from passing by the convention hall.

A state police helicopter hovered over the Moscone Center while police conducted their thorough search of the buildings. The evacuation took place shortly after 3pm PDT. Published reports said the threat was telephoned into authorities earlier in the afternoon.

OracleWorld is scheduled to wrap up tomorrow with a keynote by Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.
