Oracle Database 11g, the long-awaited new version of Oracle's flagship database management system, is now commercially available for the Linux platform.
Oracle 11g includes four new options designed to help users meet a broad range of data management needs, according to Oracle. They include Oracle Real Application Testing and Oracle Advanced Compression, which cost $10,000 per processor or $200 per named user each; as well as Oracle Total Recall and Oracle Active Data Guard, which cost $5,000 per processor or $100 per named user each.
There is no price increase for the basic Oracle 11g package, according to Oracle.
"Oracle Database 11g continues the focus on grid computing by enabling grids of low-cost servers and storage to deliver fast, scalable and reliable data processing, supporting the toughest data warehousing, transaction processing and content management environments," Andy Mendelsohn, Oracle's senior vice president of database server technologies, said in a press release.
Oracle hasn't announced release dates for Oracle 11g on Microsoft Windows and Unix platforms.
A free evaluation version of Oracle 11g for Linux-on-x86 is available for download from the Oracle Technology Network.
