The new version of the Oracle Identity Management suite is the first to integrate technology Oracle acquired with the purchase of security software maker Oblix Inc.

Designed to help organizations safeguard information from unauthorized access, the new version of the Oracle Identity Management suite offers extended support for non-Oracle systems and will serve as the security foundation for Oracle's Fusion Middleware offering, company officials said.

"When we acquired Oblix, Oracle provided an outline for how we would rapidly integrate Oblix technology with Oracle's existing identity offerings," Hasan Rizvi, Oracle's vice president of security and identity management, said in a statement. "This release marks the first milestone of delivering on that commitment."

Oracle announced the acquisition of Cupertino, Calif.-based Oblix in late March, just one week after it acquired retail software firm Retek Inc. Last December, it bought rival PeopleSoft Corp. after a long and heated takeover battle.

Thus far, Oblix's identity management tools have allowed customers to use a single password to log on to applications in Oracle's eBusiness suite and software from PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards. With the new release of the Identity Management Suite, Oracle says it is extending that capability to all leading applications, directories and platforms.
