As an ex-Oracle employee and 16 year veteran of Oracle implementations, this is par for the course for amoral consulting firms. The mentality of many large consulting firms is to underbid, under-perform and hold the project hostage for more money. However, many large corporations will not consider smaller firms that have a lot more at stake if a project fails. Firms making billions are not as concerned about squandering millions at the cost of others. Nevertheless, I understand that deep pocket firms usually go with larger consulting companies when implementing key systems. Smaller firms will not allow the losses to mount as high before pulling the plug on incompetence.
