Much to the dismay of its chief competitor, SAP AG, Oracle in September reported that total software revenues were up 29% to $2.7 billion, with database and middleware license revenues up 15% and new applications license revenues up a whopping 80%. Experts said the results pointed to an acquisition strategy that was beginning to pay off, although many wondered if the new numbers were sustainable.
