10g and Database 10g will handle Web services provisioning, deployment and identity management, while SecureSpan manages access control, encryption and threat protection on Oracle products.

Enterprises can use this combination to integrate databases, PKI, identity management and provisioning into Web services, increasing security and flexibility, the companies said in a statement.

SecureSpan consists of three components: SecureSpan Gateway, which is an XML firewall; SecureSpan Manager, which defines security policies enforced by Gateway; and SecureSpan Agent, which extends security policies to clients and client applications without the need for additional coding.

SecureSpan can be managed from a central location, and is standards-based, managing integration policies at both ends of a Web services deployment.
