QUESTION POSED ON: 29 July 2004
I can no longer log into my database as the sys user. I am getting an ORA-01017 invalid username/password: logon denied error. The password has not changed. I logged in as SYSTEM and reset the password and still get the same error. I am logging in through Enterprise Manager (9i). I also tried through SQL*Plus with the same error. I am not able to perform maintenance because I cannot log in as a sysdba. Why would this happen?

It is possible that your password file is missing or corrupt. Try recreating the password file with the ORADIM utility. Specify the correct SYS password when running this utility.
