QUESTION POSED ON: 22 June 2004 We are near purchase of the Oracle 11i Supply Chain Management suite, and thus need to learn as much as possible about both the Oracle database structure and the implementation and utilization of the SCM systems. Can you describe any tips or traps to be aware of when implementing or working with SCM?

EXPERT RESPONSE
The SCM Suite is a rather major undertaking both technically and functionally. I feel that the biggest tip that I can give you is to find resources who have implemented SCM before for a similar organization with similar business processes. I have seen SCM implementations struggle because the functional requirements have been specificed in a vacuum without understanding the ramifications technically (both understanding the functional capabilities of the base products and the technical limitations of the base product). Regional user groups may be a great place to find such a resource(s). If you are still not having luck, I can put you in touch with some organizations who may be a good fit.
