QUESTION POSED ON: 26 May 2004
With Oracle10g (cluster mode), do we always have to use a SAN for storage purposes?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
For Oracle's Real Application Clusters (RAC) that clusters multiple servers for the same Oracle database, you do need to have shared storage available to all servers in the cluster. This does not always mean that you need to employ a real-life SAN environment. There are cheaper solutions available. I would suggest that if you purchase RAC from Oracle, that you get some help from Oracle Corp. on the disk storage that will work for you.
