QUESTION POSED ON: 26 November 2003
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7. Enterprise on Windows 2003 Server (I do not know if Oracle 8.1.7 supports Windows 2003 or not).

It's not able to finish installation successfully. It stops when it tries to install/start Net8 configuration services. It simply hangs there and does nothing. When I stop that part of installation and try to create a new database (after starting Oracle services including the listner) -- it gives error message saying "TNS : Protocol Adapter Failed".

EXPERT RESPONSE
Oracle has only certified its client software with Windows XP and to install it a patched version of the installer is required (obtainable by entering [BUG:2445238] number in the patch number field in MetaLink).

Oracle does not plan to provide certification or support of Oracle8 or the Oracle8i Database Server components on Windows XP.

That's why you're having trouble installing the product....it's not supported/certified.
