What is Unix shell scripting?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
When you sign on to a Unix system, your session runs in a shell. The most common shells are C Shell, Bourne Shell, and Korn Shell. On Windows systems, you can start a DOS command-line "shell." In any of these systems, the shell is the interaction between you and the operating system. This interaction is performed by typing in a series of commands at the command-line prompt. Shell scripting is the ability to link together a series of commands in a file to accomplish some task. To accomplish that task, all one has to do is to execute the file that contains the shell script commands. For more information and some examples, see the following: Shell script in Wikipedia
