QUESTION POSED ON: 01 May 2008
I'm a novice in Oracle database administration. I'd like to know the step-by-step procedure followed for database upgrading/migration.

Is it that the procedure described in Oracle documentation is the path organizations usually follow to upgrade/migrate their databases? Or is it a customized approach?

Can you point to manuals/documentations on real-life database upgrading/migration?

Oracle already provides a step-by-step upgrade guide in its documentation. Here is the Oracle 10g upgrade guide.

For your upgrade, I strongly recommend reading this guide until you are familiar with the upgrade process. Each upgrade I have ever done uses the information in this guide for the upgrade process.
