QUESTION POSED ON: 15 August 2007
I am searching for an easy way to fetch and insert data into/from DB2. I saw a response regarding Transparent Gateways. Can you kindly give some more information regarding the tool and its abilities? Where can I read more information? Does it require special licensing? How, technically, is the connection created and used?

Transparent Gateways (formerly Heterogeneous Services -- HS) lets you interact with non-Oracle databases as through a database link. Oracle does not even know that the remote DB is not Oracle.

Transparent Gateways do require a special license. You will have to work with your Oracle salesman to obtain pricing.

For more information on Transparent Gateways, please read the Oracle docs for DB2.
