QUESTION POSED ON: 09 August 2007
How to find the transactions being committed? Which database views help to find this?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
Oracle does not contain a simple view which shows you the committed transactions. Database systems have a lot of work to do. So they like to keep their tasks as simple as possible. It is a lot of work to commit many simultaneous transactions let alone keep a viewable log of these transactions. Most people only care about viewing the actual transaction's contents but would rather see the committed data, which you can always do. However, Oracle does log all transactions in the online redo logs. And if you archived your online transaction logs, you can use Oracle's Log Miner utility to see the transactions. You can use Log Miner on the online redo logs too, but these get overwritten so you may lose the information you are looking for. This document shows you how you can use Log Miner to obtain the information you seek.
