QUESTION POSED ON: 26 June 2007
I have always used TKPROF to do SQL tuning in previous versions of Oracle (7,8 and 9). Can I still use TKPROF in Oracle 10g R2 or do I need to use SQL Advisor with ADDM and AWR?

EXPERT RESPONSE
Yes, you can still use TKPROF. I still use it quite a bit myself when I can identify the specify session causing the problem so I can trace that session. Reading a trace file is a little complicated so TKPROF is very helpful in formatting that into an easier-to-read format.
