QUESTION POSED ON: 29 May 2007
I am installing Oracle 9i on Red Hat 9. The installation is correct but I'm getting problems while installing the Database Configuration Assistant. The error is "Do not have sufficient privileges to write to the specified path in component Database Configuration Assistant 9.2.0.1.0 installation cannot continue for this component." But I already gave the privilleges to the specified path with oracle user. Shall I have to install some RPMs for this? I would appreciate your fast reply.

According to Oracle's Certification Matrix, Oracle9i release 2 is certified on RHEL 3 and RHEL 4. Ensure that you are using one of these two releases of RedHat Linux. There is a reported problem installing 9.2.0.4 on Linux when it gets to the DBCA installation portion. The problem originates from not having $ORACLE_BASE defined prior to starting the installation. It is also possible that, if it is defined, $ORACLE_BASE is pointing to an invalid location. Ensure that you have $ORACLE_BASE set to a valid location and exported in your session, then ensure that the permissions are correct. Retry the installation after making these changes.
