QUESTION POSED ON: 15 May 2007
Is it possible to move an Oracle home on Solaris 8 from one partition to another, or is it possible to move an Oracle home to another partition and create a softlink for it in the old partition?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
I would highly recommend not using symbolic links to your Oracle home. I have seen inventory problems arise as a result of having a symbolic link to $ORACLE_HOME. As well, I would not move Oracle home -- I'm not even sure if this is supported by Oracle. My preference would be to reinstall Oracle in the new location. This way, you can be sure that the inventory is valid and intact, which will allow you to apply patches in the future.
