Hi. I'm working as a business development executive in a software company. I want to know the advantages of migrating appliations from Oracle 7i to the 10g platform. Also I want to know if there is an SAP system running on an Oracle background, then what are the business opportunities for my organization? An important reason for upgrading your Oracle database from 7.x to 10g is to take advantage of the many new features offered with the 10g database. The Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2) Database New Features Guide gives a good overview of those new features in 10g. Be sure to review the Oracle certification matrix to ensure that your operating system supports and is certified for Oracle 10g before you begin a database upgrade project.

Another good reason to upgrade is technical support for your databases. Oracle 7.x is no longer supported by Oracle, so it may be difficult to obtain assistance with a technical problem should you encounter one. It is always good practice to remain on a release level of the database that is supported.

If you are running SAP software on top of an Oracle database, SAP has very detailed and rigid procedures for upgrading your database. It would be best to visit the SAP Marketplace Web site and review the available documentation.
