QUESTION POSED ON: 04 December 2006 I recently inherited an Oracle database running on Solaris. This database was patched to 9.2.0.7 from 9.2.0.1 this past summer. After the last patch was installed it appears that our developers are having problems with CLOB data being updated. The developers put updated data in their app and save it, but the old data is returned. Do we need to change the NLS or database character set or is this another problem? I have done some research, but have yet to find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EXPERT RESPONSE
I have never seen this happen with the application of a patchset. Did something else application-related change at the same time? Are there any errors reported in Oracle trace files (udump or bdump) or in any application logs? This appears to be an application issue. If this had been a database upgrade, i.e., Oracle9i to 10g, then I would not be as surprised to see results like this. I would recommend opening a TAR with Oracle Support so their analysts can help you resolve this problem.
