QUESTION POSED ON: 12 October 2006
Is it necessary the Oracle server should be on a Windows OS to connect to Oracle Gateway installed on a Windows machine where MS SQL Server is also installed? What I mean is, can we access SQL Server from the Oracle server database installed on Linux through a transparent gateway installed on a Windows machine? If so how do we do that?

Yes, you can access SQL Server from Oracle running on any server as long as you have the Gateway product for that server. Once installed you can access other non-Oracle databases in exactly the same way, irrespective of platform type.
