QUESTION POSED ON: 09 October 2006
I have to migrate a 9i database with a size of 700 GB on AIX to a 10g database on Suse Linux. With export/import it lasts for a disproportionately long time. Is there a reasonable alternative?

If you have the option to upgrade your database to Oracle 10gR2 on the AIX server, then you can use transportable tablespaces to migrate the database to the Linux server. Transportable tablespaces in Oracle 10gR2 allows you go migrate across operating systems. Note that if you choose this option, you will also need to install Oracle 10g on the AIX server. To learn more about how to use transportable tablespaces in Oracle 10g, review the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Administrator's Guide.

It would also be a good idea to review the certification matrix to determine whether you can install Oracle 10g on the AIX server.
