QUESTION POSED ON: 06 June 2006
I have been using Oracle for the last three years (Oracle 8i and 9i). I was taking database backups using the export command and Windows backup utility. Now I am using Oracle 10g. I saw the Oracle backup facilities in that. I tried to back up. Is it is stored in the flash recovery area? I changed the path, but it did not work correctly. I want to know more about Oracle's backup utility and how it to recover through it. Please help me. Can I get a bach file for Oracle backup?

In 10g, the best tool for backup and recovery is Recovery Manager (RMAN). RMAN gives you the most flexibility and the most options for backup and recovery. In 10g, RMAN is fully integrated with the Flash Recovery Area which you can use to store your RMAN backups. And you can perform your backup and recovery operations with Enterprise Manager, which interfaces to RMAN on your behalf. I would highly recommend reading the backup and recovery documentation for more information.
