QUESTION POSED ON: 27 March 2006
First we read records from three different tables and insert into a temp table. From the temp table I fetch the records one by one, do some calculations and insert into another table if the record is new. If it already exists then I update the final table. Is there any possibility to improve the performance?

Using a single SQL statement rather than row-by-row processing is bound to be faster. If you can avoid saving to a temporary table, do so. Also, if your Oracle version supports the MERGE statement, which updates or inserts depending on whether the row already exists in the target table, look into using that.
