QUESTION POSED ON: 16 March 2006
I'm trying to open the Reports Builder 9i on my Windows XP Professional SP1. The problem is that I can see the Reports Builder start screen and that's all. It always hangs at that point. I can open Oracle Forms Builder and everything else in the Developer Suite.

Greg,

The Oracle Development tools are finicky, at best! I can't say I have experienced your symptoms before, but I have had many other issues of my own with them.

  1. Try uninstalling/re-installing both Forms and Reports.
  2. If you have Workflow installed, put your Forms and Reports in a different Oracle home. Forms and Reports came out long before Workflow and they don't seem to play well together in the same home.
  3. Remove all Oracle homes and registry entries, and re-install everything.
  4. If you are using Unix, get a terminal emulator that supports graphs and run both Forms and Reports from there. They are much more stable on Unix than Windows.
  5. Metalink.

Finally, always remember to save your work at regular intervals. It's not a matter of if but when both tools will crash.

Thanks,
Russell
