QUESTION POSED ON: 12 January 2006
I tried installing Oracle9i in Red Hat Linux (kernel version 2.4) with jre118_v3, and I have three Oracle discs. When I log in as user Oracle and hit this command:
    # /mnt/cdrom/runinstall
I get this error:
Error: occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library:
/tmp/OraInstall2006-01-12_09-13-27AM/jre/lib/i386 /libjava.so: symbol
__libc_wait, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link
time reference

Did you go to the otn.oracle.com site and get the installation guide? In there are the prerequisites such as the versions of various support packages needed to be able to install.

I also suggest going here for a complete procedure with prerequisites.
