QUESTION POSED ON: 17 November 2005
I have a full export dump from an Oracle database (version 8i) from a VAX/Alpha machine. I want to import to a Linux system which has Oracle 9i installed. What steps should I follow?

FTP the dump file from one server to another. Make sure you FTP in binary mode.
Precreate the 9i database on the Linux system.
Precreate any users and tablespaces you may need.

Import the dump file:

   imp userid=system/manager full=y file=exp.dmp log=imp.log
