QUESTION POSED ON: 21 September 2005
Since upgrading from W2000 to XP I cannot get into my Oracle applications. Oracle 9.2.0.4 is installed on my laptop together with my schemas. The message I get is "ORA 12638: Credential Retrieval Failed." Is there a way around this error other than re-installing Oracle?

>
I have seen this error occur when sqlnet.authentication_services = (NTS) is set in the sqlnet.ora file on the client machine. The client machine is attempting to connect to the database but authentication fails. Either comment out this line in your sqlnet.ora or change it to sqlnet.authentication_services = (none). The sqlnet.ora can be found in $ORACLE_HOMEnetworkadmin.
