QUESTION POSED ON: 14 September 2005
Brian, I found your explanation of how partitioning can be enabled in Oracle. It looks like it is about Oracle 8i, so it did not help me (Oracle 9.2).

After the additional installation of Partitioning via Oracle Universal Installer and executing the script you mentioned (and after Oracle restart) I still get ORA-00439 error and V$OPTION still contains Partitioning = FALSE.

Could you help me please? Thank you in advance.

You have installed the Partitioning option with the OUI, but your database is still not recognizing this fact. To fix this, try the following steps:

  1. Shut down all of your Oracle software.
  2. Change directory to your ORACLE_HOME/bin directory.
  3. Run the following command: 
    relink all

This will recompile your Oracle executables. If this still does not fix your problem, then explictly state to recompile with partitioning turned on by issuing the following instead of step 3 above: 

make -f ins_rdbms.mk part_on
