QUESTION POSED ON: 14 July 2005
What I'm going to ask has already been asked and answered but it doesn't work for me. I have Windows 2000 and Oracle 8.1.7 database installed on it. Recently I installed Oracle 9.2 on it and I ran the Database Upgrade Assistant, and it threw a ORA-12560 error on the first of six steps. I changed the Oracle home to both Oracle versions but still no luck. Any ideas?

EXPERT RESPONSE
It's difficult to say exactly what the problem is here. It could be that your ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME are not set correctly. The problem may also stem from not having the appropriate privileges at the OS level. You must connect to the server with an appropriately privileged account. If you do not have operating system authentication, you will need to provide a username and password that has SYSDBA privileges. Check for any log files in $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbma. Log files may help to pinpoint the source of this problem.
