QUESTION POSED ON: 29 April 2005
I am new to Oracle installation stuff. I have the Windows 2003 operating system. I want to install Oracle 9.2 on the database server, but I have Oracle 9i installation CD. Is Oracle 9.2 compatible with Oracle 9i? Do I have to apply any patchsets after installing Oracle 9i?

EXPERT RESPONSE

If your CDROM says 9i Release 2 (9.2.0), then you have version 9.2.0. If it says Oracle 9i (9.0.1), then you have 9i Release 1. They are different vesions, but both are referred to as Oracle 9i.

As for compatibility, all the 9i Release 1 (9.0.1) functionality should also be available in 9i Release 2 (9.2.0). However, 9i Release 2 added some functionality that is not available in 9i Release 1.
