QUESTION POSED ON: 19 August 2004
I am trying to install Oracle Collaboration Suite on Linux ES 2.1. Environment variables were set, and the patch recommended by Oracle (patch 2414946) was applied. Everything appears to be going fine until the configuration stage. Then, the Oracle database configuration assistant hangs at the "creating and starting Oracle instance stage" exactly at 44%. The system just freezes and the mouse nor keyboard won't work. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

EXPERT RESPONSE
I have done a lot of installs on Linux, and it can be very frustrating. In almost every case, the problem is that the OS was not set up properly before the install started. Kernel parameters must be set, files need symbolic links. The smallest item not set can cause the system to not install. In Disk 1 under the doc subdirectory there is an install guide. Step through it and ensure each item is accomplished. I have gone so far as to print it and initial after each step. Then run an RDA right before starting the Oracle installer. If it still will not install send the RDA to Oracle Support for help. However, in one frustrating case it turned out that the server was not supported by Red Hat Linux.
