QUESTION POSED ON: 11 May 2004
I have Oracle 8.1.7.0.1 and I am getting the following errors:

ORA-00320 can not read file header from log 1 thread 1
ORA-321 ORACLE_HOME Redo1.log
ORA-27091: skgfqio: unable to queue I/O

Additional information: I have RedHat Linux as the OS and I'm wondering how to correct this so the db will start and our Web site will once again work.

Your database is missing one of its online redo logs. To correct this problem, follow these steps, in SQL*Plus or SVRMGRL:

1. CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
2. STARTUP MOUNT
3. RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL CANCEL;
4. CANCEL (at first prompt)
5. ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

When you open the database with RESETLOGS, it will recreate the missing online redo log files. At this point, immediately shut down the database and take a good backup! If you do not, you will not be able to recover past the resetlogs operation.
