The Open Group

The Open Group is a software standards organization that is sponsored by a number of major software vendors. The Open Group develops and fosters industry standards for software interfaces, often using technologies developed by one of the sponsoring companies. The Open Group originated by combining two previous organizations, X/Open and the Open Software Foundation (OSF). Standards that the Open Group maintains include the standard UNIX program interfaces and Structured Query Language (the database query language).
