Q

Windows administrator to DBA

I am currently working as a systems administrator on Windows. My friend suggested I think about becoming a DBA....

But I do not have any basic knowledge on Oracle. I am ready to learn -- should I go for it? Also, how different is database administration from Windows administration? I've got a white paper titled "Grow that DBA career" on my Web site, which discusses what a DBA does and some tips on how to get a job.

Being a DBA is different than being a sys admin. Many of the skills are the same, but a DBA needs many other skills, like application development.
