Will Oracle recognize additional RAM or a new processor?

If you add RAM or a processor to your server, will Oracle recognize right away these additional resources?

Oracle does not really do anything with the physical memory, or RAM. Oracle will use the server's memory and can use the new memory (provided Oracle and the operating system can address that much memory) provided you reconfigure Oracle to allocate more memory. This means you may have to increase certain memory-related initialization parameters.

So long as you have not manually set the CPU_COUNT initialization parameter, Oracle will automatically recognize the new CPUs.
