Using Oracle Transparent Gateways to fetch data from DB2

Hi Brian, I have a Web site using .nst and Oracle 8i. I want to fetch data from a DB2 (Mpaics) database and also write back to DB2 tables. Is Oracle Transparent Gateways a recommended tool? Is it available on 8i? Is there any other solution that would have quicker real-time connectivity between the two databases?

I would highly recommend upgrading to a newer version. Oracle 8i is no longer supported and it won't be long for Oracle 9i to join it. So I would upgrade to Oracle 10g as soon as I could. In Oracle 10g, the product to connect to another RDBMS platform through a database link is called Transparent Gateways. In Oracle 8i, this same product is called Heterogeneous Services. Different names for what is essentially the same thing. This is the correct tool to connect Oracle to a non-Oracle database.
