For daily backups I use Oracle export. I got the following error to one table FPTEMPLATE while exporting the database using Oracle export. That is the only table that contains a column having datatype varchar2 size 4000. The table description shows the datatype correctly varchar2(4000). The error during export of table FPTEMPLATE is "EXP-00018: datatype (0) for column TEMPLATE, table TNTUSER.FPTEMPLATE is not supported."
Please tell me why the error is occuring and what I should do to backup the database including the table.
This error can occur when you use an older export version to export the database. For instance, if you are using Oracle's 8.0 or 7.3 export to export an Oracle 8i database, then you can get this error.
If you are running the 8i export and still hitting this problem, then it is possible that there is some problem with the data dictionary. Sign on to the database as SYS and run the ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catexp script and try to do the export again.
