Trouble running upgrade assistant

I have Oracle8i installed on a Windows 2000 machine. I just installed Oracle9i on the same machine. I am trying to run the 9i database upgrade assistant to migrate the 8i databases to 9i. When I attempt to select an 8i database, the application tells me that it is "getting database information," then I get an ORA-12560: TNS:Protocol Adapter Error. I have checked to make sure the database services are running. Also, strangely enough, I AM able to connect to the 8i databases using both 8iDBA_Studio and 9iEnterprise_Manager just fine.

You may need to verify which ORACLE_HOME is set. It may be looking at the wrong tnsnames.ora file entry depending on if ORACLE_HOME is 8i or 9i.
