Taking cold backup without external backup media

I don't have an external backup media attached directly to my database server. Can I take a cold backup of the database server on the database itself? Can I take a cold backup of the database on the Windows server where I have a lot of space? Please help. Thanks.

To reduce the downtime required for a cold backup, one typically backs up their database directly to another disk on that server. This is one of the quickest backup destinations. Then the database is started. Obviously, if the entire server crashes, the backup is gone. So the cold backup of the database is often followed up by copying the backup to a destination off of the database server. This destination can be tape or disk on another server.
