Can I take up a whole database backup using only DBF files? Because we don't have a .dmp file for that database, but we have DBF files or control files for that particular database.

At a bare minimum, you need your database datafiles (typically .dbf) and your control files. You may also want to back up your online redo logs, your parameter file and your password file. It is also good policy to back up your ORACLE_BASE directory too.
