Q

Restoring a hot backup of a production database

An Oracle user asks how difficult it would be to restore a hot backup of a production database to a test environment.

We currently perform cold backups in our environment. We are running Oracle 10g. We would like to switch to hot backups. How difficult would it be for us to restore a hot backup of our production database to our test environment test?
It would not be very difficult at all. You will need the backup files and the archived redo log files. Since the database will be backed up hot, the archived redo log files will be needed to resolve any inconsistencies.
