Q

Practice installing Oracle software on Solaris

I have Solaris 10 on my home computer. I want to practice installing Oracle software on Solaris. Will it work? What is the patch level of OS so we can successfully install Oracle and test? Is it enough if I read the Oracle install guide for Unix? Will it have all the information needed?

I have Solaris 10 (downloaded from the Solaris site) installed in my home computer. I want to practice installing Oracle software on Solaris. My questions are:
  1. Will it work? I understand that 9i is not certified for Solaris 10. I will go with 10g.
  2. What is the patch level of OS so we can successfully install Oracle and test?
  3. Is it enough if I read the Oracle install guide for Unix? Will it have all the information needed? (250 pages, quite a read.) Will I need extra things like Windows XP on my home computer?
Thanks.

According to Oracle's Certification Matrix Oracle 9.2, 10gR1 and 10gR2 can be installed on the Solaris 10 platform.

To determine which patches are required, review the Oracle 10gR2 Database Installation Guide for Solaris Operating System.

Be sure to also review the release notes for Solaris.
