Q

Performing a backup with table locks

An Oracle user asks if a backup can be performed when there are table locks on certain fields.

Can an Oracle database be backed up when there are table locks on certain fields?
Yes. The backup routines do not care if the table locks are acquired, provided you are using a sound hot backup technique. You do not have to release these locks to be able to perform a hot backup. Please read the Backup Guide for your Oracle version.
