Oracle not available after reboot

I have installed Oracle8i v8.1.5 on Windows XP Professional edition. The installation works fine, but as soon as I reboot the machine it throws an error saying Oracle not available.

You should ensure that your database service is set to startup automatically at boot time. The service name in the services control panel should be OracleService. From your description, it is most likely not set to start up automatically. You should also investigate what is actually throwing the error you describe (you said "it" is throwing an error). Maybe there's some other program trying to connect to the database and that other program is misconfigured.
