Move database or application to its own server for performance?

Which would increase performance more: moving an Oracle database to its own server, or moving the Oracle application to its own server?

Which would increase performance more: moving an Oracle database to its own server, or moving the Oracle application to its own server? Assume the application is being used for demand planning and forecasting and there is a new server to move one or the other to. Which is the best way to go to increase performance?
It depends on which tier of the application is most resource-intensive. Testing of each option should reveal the best way to go. In my experience, dedicating a server to the Oracle RDBMS is the most common practice, but all environments and applications are different, so test to make sure.
