Q

Migrating directly from 8i to 10g

I saw the question you answered on Dec. 17, 2003, regarding this topic, but I need an updated answer. We are currently...

on 8i. Can we migrate directly from 8i to 10g? Do we have to go through 9i? The answer depends on which version of Oracle 8i you currently are running. If you are running Oracle 8.1.7, then you can upgrade directly to 10g. If you are running Oracle 8.1.5 or 8.1.6, then you must upgrade to either 8.1.7 or 9.0.1 or 9.2.0 before you can upgrade to 10g.

This is fully documented in Chapter 2 of the "Oracle 10g Migration Guide." I would highly recommend reading this before beginning your upgrade.
