Q

Migrating a FoxPro database to Oracle

How should a FoxPro to Oracle migration take place?

Ideally, one would use Oracle's Migration Workbench to facilitate the conversion from one RDBMS to Oracle. This utility can be found at the following URL:

http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/migration/workbench/index.html

Unfortunately, this will not work for FoxPro. So you will have to dump the data to a database-independent format and then use Oracle's utilities to load that data. From FoxPro, you'll have to dump your tables as comma-delimited flat files. Then you can use Oracle's SQL*Loader to load these files into Oracle tables.
