Maximum limit Oracle DBMS datafiles

Oracle expert Brian Peasland discusses how to control the maximum number of datafiles in a database.

How do DB_FILES & MAXDATAFILES control the number of datafiles in Oracle DB? How do you check the maximum limit on the number of datafiles in Oracle DB on a different OS platform?
The DB_FILES parameter updates the MAXDATAFILES number in the control file. Luckily, you can increase your max number of datafiles, up to the platform limit. When one creates a new datafile in the database, the control file is consulted to ensure the max has not been reached.

To check how many files your platform supports, for your version, consult the platform specific documentation.
