JavaRunTime problem when installing 9i

I am new to Oracle and have been trying to install Oracle9i from a download.

After extracting the zip files and trying to run Setup.exe, I get a message that says "JavaRunTime Environment not found at binjavaw.exe. Visit http:www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher..."

I have checked some other Oracle discussion forums and see that it is a common problem, but I haven't seen any solutions that were workable for me. I would appreciate any help you could give.
The Oracle install media contains its own Java Runtime Engine (JRE). It looks like when you are installing Oracle, it is using a different JRE. Make sure that your PATH environment variable does not contain the directory that holds your other JRE installation. Then Oracle should use its own JRE to fire up the Universal Installer.
