The migration from Oracle 10g release 1 to release 2 is quite straightforward. The Oracle Database Upgrade Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) provides pre- and post-upgrade steps to follow, as well as a detailed procedure for performing the migration either manually or via the Database Upgrade Assistant (DBUA). The guide can be downloaded from Oracle's Technology Network.

Applications developed using Oracle 10g release 1 should be tested thoroughly after the migration is completed in your development environment. Ideally, you should be able to perform the migration several times and the application support team(s) should test all affected applications after each migration. Often, the easiest part of this whole process is the actual migration. Testing all applications that your database supports is the most difficult portion.
